Ngā Pihi 1
Winner Best Children's Album, 1995 NZ Music Awards.
The simplicity of these songs appeals to young children and beginners in the Māori language. There are five fresh, original songs and four well-known waiata on this tape. Instrumental versions on Side Two encourage other activities such as karaoke-style group singing and movement.
Songbook (with translations, melody lines and guitar chords, teaching notes and large word sheets) is available separately.
Since Ngā Pihi was launched in Te Tau o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Year) by Sir John Bennett of Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust, the tapes and books have been in constant demand. The title Ngā Pihi (young shoots) was chosen to reflect both young children and beginners in te reo, for whom the resource was envisioned.
Ngā Pihi is carefully structured to focus on simplicity, repetition, variety, delight and spiritual values.
The Ngā Pihi 1 song book (with translations, melody lines and guitar chords, teaching notes and large word sheets) is available separately.
Ngā Pihi 2 is also available at the ReoStore
