Haemata Limited was established in 1999 by Hineihaea Murphy and Mark Fell with the aim of contributing positively to the ongoing growth of Māori language and to support Māori education initiatives. Our name, Haemata (literally, strong-growing), reflects the strength and opportunities for growth we seek to bring to the Māori language and Māori education sectors by providing complete and high quality services. It also reflects our commitment to supporting the growth of te reo Māori as a living language. With a team of experienced, well-qualified and energetic consultants, we are able to offer a comprehensive range of Māori language and Māori education consultancy services. Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Apa, Ngāi Tahu
Founding member and Director of Haemata, Hineihaea is a trained secondary Māori language teacher with more than 30 years experience in Māori language education and has facilitated many teacher in-service programmes on curriculum, second language pedagogy, and assessment. She is an accredited English-medium and Māori-medium professional learning and development facilitator.
Founding member and Director of Haemata, Mark is an experienced Human Resources and Organisational Development specialist who has held senior management positions in large government departments. With over 20 years experience, he has successfully managed the restructuring and implementation of HR systems and practices in several government and educational organisations.
Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Apa, Ngāi Tahu
Te Aorangi is Haemata's Managing Director. He completed a Bachelor of Management Studies with honours in 2019 at the University of Waikato, and more recently his Master's degree in Māori language excellence. He is the youngest member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) to go through the chartered pathway. Te Aorangi's endeavour is to make a positive impact in the revitalisation of the Māori Language and the development of the Māori economy.
Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa
As Haemata's Pouārahi Capability, Jenny brings extensive experience in governance, strategy, people and leadership development. Previously, she managed Westpac's RTO in Sydney for three years and established a highly successful whānau-based Māori tertiary training organisation. She has experience across most business acumen, with four governance roles, and provides consultancy for various projects. She holds an Executive MBA from Massey University and is currently on her Te Reo studies journey.
Ngāti Kahungunu
Miriama has taught in the primary, secondary, tertiary, Catholic, RTM, and Māori-medium education sectors, but the highlight has been her work as the Tumuaki of a Kura Kaupapa Māori Te Aho Matua for more than 20 years. She has been involved in a variety of MoE contracts, both as a manager and facilitator. She is enthusiastic about working with kaiako, supporting them in developing their classroom practice, as well as working with tumuaki around the ever-increasing workload.
Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Tarāwhai
Nadine has 12 years primary and middle school teaching experience in English medium schools and 5 years experience as a Specialist Curriculum Leader of Languages. She has a particular passion for teaching te reo Māori and supporting teachers in their programme planning and teaching of te reo Māori. Nadine is particularly interested and passionate about using second language acquisition theories to inform best practice of teaching te reo Māori to enhance the learning experience for all ākonga.
Anja joined the Haemata team in October 2019 and has a background in office management and administration as well as hospitality, having worked for the commercial arm of the local iwi in Whakatāne and tourism-related front desk work. She supports the team in the smooth running and organisation of ongoing and upcoming projects.

Shyree is Haemata's Capability Consultant. After completing her qualification in Commerce and Administration, Shyree gained a wealth of experience with KP Solutions as a Human Resource Consultant. Shyree works across multiple projects, including Ako Panuku and ensures that our members get the best of information that we can offer.
Ngāti Ranginui, Ngai Te Rangi, Ngāti Pūkenga, Te Arawa
Tuihana joins Haemata as our new Senior Communications Specialist. She has worked with a diverse range of clients from iwi and community organisations to large corporations, delivering impactful communications and integrated campaigns, highlighting her talent in storytelling, content creation, and inclusive public relations. She is currently studying PRINZ APR and an MMS in PR.
